Description

A roasted green tea from Japan

While Japan is famous for its spring green teas rich in umami (the well-known sencha), it also produces very different green teas with a delicious toasted profile. Bancha Hojicha is one of them.

“Bancha” means that the tea comes from summer or autumn harvests, while “hojicha” translates as roasted tea: it is through roasting that this green tea takes on its brown colour and develops a very pleasant woody aroma.

Although hojicha is sometimes ground into powder, our organic Bancha Hojicha is infused as loose leaves and can be enjoyed both hot and iced.

This tea comes from organic farming and has been certified by an approved independent certification body.

Refreshing and low in caffeine

Bancha Hojicha is known for being refreshing and low in caffeine. This is easily explained: bancha teas often come from so-called equalising harvests, which contain fewer buds and include lower leaves, naturally lower in caffeine. This tea can be enjoyed hot or cold and is served on all occasions in Japan, including before meals.

A versatile and much-loved tea, making an excellent bridge into Japanese teas for lovers of Chinese teas!
